I've lived in Leeds for 30 years, bar the odd stint in London and university, so there are very few places that I don't know of. Except, last week I discovered there was an interiors haven less than 30 minutes drive away from my house and I had never been.
Redbrick Mill is located in an area of Yorkshire called Batley and is dubbed the north's leading destination for interiors. Dam right it deserves that title. I knew as soon as walked in that this was going to be my sort of Sunday morning. Set over four floors, Redbrick brings together forty of the best contemporary interior companies within the UK. From Heals to the Made.com studio up on the top floor, every inch is covered in home decor inspiration.
I actually came to look at a couple of pieces of Made.com furniture in the flesh at their northern studio. I have a beautifully crafted dressing table chair from Made, as well as a limited edition print of Marilyn Monroe so I was interested to see if a coffee table (below with the copper accent) and light (the studio lamp with white legs below) I have my eye on were just as nice. Affirmative. They were.
Interior specialist Heals has a fantastic space there with so much to tempt me (including Tom Dixon products and sooo much blue and white pottery I was tempted to get my emergencies-only credit card out) but the floor which really stole my heart was by Devoted To.
Specialising in emerging British talent, this 6000 sq ft space featured everything from striking typography prints, to amazing coffee table books, sculpture, vintage clothing and even an area to sit and have coffee and cake whilst soaking up the creative surroundings. Visitors can expect artists and brands such as Mini Moderns, Love Neon, Norwegian Wood and Evermade.
If you're ever in Yorkshire, or in fact you're one of my Yorkshire readers, then I'd definitely recommend spending the day wandering around Redbrick - visit the website here to see exactly why it's become my new favourite place.
