THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN SALTAIRE VILLAGE YORKSHIRE

THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN SALTAIRE VILLAGE YORKSHIRE

I spent yesterday afternoon in Saltaire, a village in Yorkshire which is about half an hour's drive away from me. Myself and my fellow vintage loving friend Hollie drove over to the vintage fair which was being held in Victoria Hall, as well as stopping for a spot of lunch and a wander around the village.

Saltaire, for those that don't know, is a village built by a man named Sir Titus Salt, who owned huge woollen mills back in the 1851. For the workers who he employed, he built housing, a hospital, a library, a school - everything they could need. They were paid in tokens and could only spend these within Saltaire, which meant all the money was returned back into the village (and mostly to Titus's pocket). Everything remains, apart from now, businesses have taken over buildings and the mill now houses some of the most beautiful art work from the likes of David Hockney.

The vintage fair itself was great, with a mixture of fashion and homewares. I spotted quite a few dresses I wish I'd snapped up, including a beautiful cream beaded dress for £18 - I'm pretty sure the women who were selling it realised how much they would make on eBay for that number.

Walking down through the village after lunch, we came to a shop called Rad Studio. It was basically heaven with a front door for me - and a completely different vibe to "oldy-worldy" village life. It was everything I aspire to when it comes to looking at opening my own store - albeit an online version.

Selling homewares, accessories, jewellery, make-up and gifts, this shop had everything I love. You just have to see from the images how amazing it is. This is the year I want to definitely put the plans in motion in regards to starting my own business. I know I have this blog, and I also have my Etsy business, I Heart the Home selling prints, but I honestly believe that if I had the time (and the money), I could make a pretty good job at creating an amazing online space similar to this.

Make sure you check out this store if you're in Saltaire, and if those readers outside of the UK ever find themselves in Yorkshire definitely make a beeline for this beautiful part of the county. For now, here's even more pictures I took. Sorry. Not sorry.
