When you rent a place, like I do, it's very hard to put your own stamp on it. Very few landlords will let you make big changes so it's a case of working with what you've got. That's where new book Home For Now comes in.
Written by freelance interior stylist and writer, Joanna Thornhill, this hardback offers a plethora of inspiration and practical advice. Having lived in twelve rented properties in her life, Thornhill definitely knows what she's talking about when it comes to making most of the canvas you're presented with. Whether it's how to style a coffee table, or make a room perfect for storing all your crafty bits and bobs, this book is ideal for making a temporary living space feel more like home.
Moving into my new place at the start of August - which is completely unfurnished - has meant that furniture up-cycling and restoration has become one of my favourite past times on a weekend. I've just finished a coffee table and next I'm turning an old fire screen into a side table. This book shows various different ways of using furniture in a way that you wouldn't normally imagine. Like old suitcases on top of each other in a hallway to offer additional storage, or painting wooden stools white to act as bedside tables. For the money conscious, the book is perfection.
Split into sections, the book covers Living Spaces, Kitchens, Dining, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, Creative Workspaces, Plants and Outdoor Living, with each chapter closing on a project to complete. Visually, this book is stunning, while the advice and general tone is helpful, witty and informative.
I'll let the pictures do the rest, but if you want to pick up a copy of Home For Now - even if you've bought your house but need a little inspiration - you can get it on Amazon here. Let me know what you think if you get it or if you've already got it in the comments section below.
