As you might know by now, I work with British interiors store Rose & Grey as one of their style ambassadors. Projects can range from styling products to getting my DIY on, and this month they asked me to show you guys how to get your home ready for Autumn using three of their new seasonal products.
Before I started working with Rose & Grey I was already a huge fan - the quality of product is second to none and there's such a great mix of categories on the site, there's pretty much something for everyone. The new collection didn't disappoint, capturing a number of key trends including industrial finishes and artisan inspired decor.
To get started, there are four elements you need to add to a room to get it ready for a new season - texture, lighting, scent and decorative finishes. Each one is easy to achieve on a budget and it updates the room without having to add paint or buy new furniture.
Texture
With the nights getting colder, adding luxe textures is a necessity - think velvets, faux furs and surprisingly, cotton. When I set about this task, I knew I wanted to add an extra throw on the top of my duvet, but I needed something fairly light weight so I could still use it in this transitional period with typically British weather - hot one minute, cold the next. This black cotton throw was the answer, with on-trend dip-dye tassel details to add interest. I love the simple design of this and it definitely has a Scandi feel to it. Plus, I'm a huge fan of black and white, hence my bedroom being a relaxing palette of monochrome.
Decorative Finishes
When the dark nights are setting in, I always like to swap pastel tones I use throughout my home with more dramatic shades and an easy way to do that is to replace my faux flowers with something a little more winter appropriate. I went to a really interesting trend presentation recently and one of the key themes for next year in terms of interiors is the mix of feminine and masculine elements - industrial textures mixed with more feminine pieces for example. Which is why I decided to go with beautiful rich purple peonies to add to my white speckled concrete planter - how gorgeous is this by the way? Definitely one of my favourite pieces from the new collection. In terms of other decorative finishes, why not add some warmer tones in brass, gold and even a little copper if you're still feeling that trend, with candle holders, photo frames and vases.
Scent
The scent of a room can change the way it feels instantly, whether its fresh linens in spring, heavier florals in summer time and spicier tones as Autumn draws in. I love to buy new candles at this time of year, and especially as Christmas starts getting closer (sorry, not sorry), I love to use cranberry and pumpkin scents in my living room. I'm quite fickle when it comes to packaging however, and always try to stick to something which works with the room decor - hence this monochrome packaging for my bedside table.
Lighting
Finally, soft lighting is key to creating a cozy and inviting environment at home, especially in the bedroom, which is why I stay away from bright lights and stick to candles and soft bedside table lamps instead. I adore lanterns and candle holders varying in size and this rustic standing star tealight holder is perfect to add a little glam to an otherwise plain corner. I can't wait for Christmas to come around as I think this will work perfectly.
How will you be getting your home ready for Autumn? Let me know if any of these pieces catch your eye and have a great Sunday.
