Let's face it, having a dedicated dressing area, whether that be a full dressing room or a perfectly styled dressing corner, is pretty much most girls' dream. I've been thinking about pimping up my bedroom-come-dressing space for a while now, including throwing away all my old, unused makeup (trust me when you still have pieces called Collection 2000, it's time to conduct a ruthless clear-out) and putting the more pretty bits and bobs on display.
To create the right setting for your dressing room/corner you need four fundamental elements - organisation, lighting, styling and storage. Organisation, for example, could mean placing your most worn pieces of clothing placed on an open rail, maybe colour co-ordinated to be more aesthetic pleasing. You could group all your nail polishes together in one box/tray for easy use (see below), and an idea I spotted on Pinterest recently is to find an old vintage cake stand and using it to showcase all your perfume bottles on.
Storage is essential in a dressing room, so head to the likes of Ikea and Homesense for some purse-friendly shelving options. Just placing three shelves on the wall, directly above each other, creates the ideal place to display all your beautiful shoes and bags.
Fresh flowers, gold metal trays and storage boxes and fluffy cushions keep your space looking Instagram friendly - especially with the use of Peonies, as found in the home of one of favourite bloggers, Kate La Vie.
Every girl knows good lighting is essential when it comes to applying make-up, so making sure you invest in good quality LED lighting (LED Hut, for example, have a great choice) - creates a halo effect for applying your lippy perfectly.
Finally, I think the key to the perfect dressing room/corner is to keep it a sanctuary just for you. Keep it looking beautiful, don't leave things out on the side to gather dust and make it a place where you can go just for some you time. That hour on a morning getting ready is your time to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet before the day starts and I don't know about you, but beautiful, organised surroundings instantly calm me.
Do you have the space to create a dressing corner in your home? Or are you lucky enough to have a room where you can display all your gorgeous vintage finds and embellished heels? I'd love to know if this is something you'd like to create in your own home.

Definitely do it! The best thing I did was create a little area for just me, to put my slap on and curl my hair :) it's the small things xxx
DeleteI think having a dedicated dressing room is DEFINITELY most girls' dream!
ReplyDeleteI love the cute idea with the nail polishes in a box, though. You could also try taking a brush and painting the lid so you know what colour is what, without taking them out the box. :-)
