As part of the lifestyle changes I've been trying to make
this past month or so, I've been adding different teas into my diet to see if
they have any effects on me. I mostly drink water through the day at work (and
the odd can of coke, don't shoot me) but having read
up on the
effects of green
tea, which supposedly
speeds up your metabolism, and camomile tea, which
soothes and relaxes you, I guessed it couldn't hurt to make a brew once or
twice a day.
After reading my Making Changes for a Healthy Life post,
a company called Teagime reached out to tell me about their new personalised
detox tea programme. The main gist of
the concept is that you fill out a questionnaire about what
troubles you're having with your body, whether it be skin, weight, digestion,
and the Teagime team create a personalised mix of hand-blended morning, afternoon
and night time tea for you for two weeks.
I wanted to
focus on two
things - my
skin and my
sluggish digestion -
so after answering a few simple
questions, I got an email to say my order had been dispatched and within two
days I had a box of goodies arrive at my desk. In the pack were three separate
bags of blended teas, some literature all about my personalised recipes and two
tea infusers.
My morning tea - Blueberry Bushes - was a mix of
blueberries, basil and oolong, which
is designed to
stimulate memory, fight
stresses and enhance
metabolism. Although this wasn't the tastiest of the three, it smelt delicious
and was a nice kick- start to the morning.
My afternoon tea followed, which was a blend of nettle,
honey red tea and raspberry called Right Bobby Dazzler. According to the
literature sent in the pack, raspberry helps to maintain a clear complexion,
while nettle clears acne and eczema and even encourages thicker, shiner hair.
Now, I'm not sure if this is a coincidence but two people have commented
recently how thick and shiny my hair looks. Is it down to the tea? I'm not sure
but I'm always happy to take a compliment.
Finally, just before bed I had my Skin Magic brew, which
comprised nettle, passion flower and rooibos. Again, designed to purify and
clear the skin, it also relaxes and aids digestion. I've been really
concentrating on giving my digestion system a good reboot recently, and I've
seen quite a few after-effects from the toxins leaving my body. Even though at
first my skin broke out, I definitely had so much more energy on an evening, as
opposed to getting home and flaking on the couch as soon as I stepped through
the door. I kept finding myself doing odd jobs like cleaning and organising, just
because I had this energy.
One thing, however, the Teagime team are clear on is that
there are never any laxative effects to these tea blends, which is often the
case with these kind of tea concepts. It imparts a false sense of weight loss,
which is never healthy. It's just a cool way of helping your body with a
totally natural blend of tea leaves and herbs. The only slightly negative point
I have is you need to watch for little bits of tea coming out of the diffuser.
The way I found to remedy this was to run it under the cold tap first so the
mix got wet and the loose bits dropped out before I put it into boiling water.
Would I continue with this tea regime? Yes, I would. You
soon get used to the taste and if nothing more, I'm sleeping so much better after
my night time mix than I did previously. Although I personally thought at first
it was slightly expensive (£29.99 for a two week programme), by the time I
added up how much green and camomile tea I've
bought from Holland
& Barrett recently,
it doesn't seem
like a raw
deal, especially as it's personalised for my own requirements.
The team over at Teagime have actually been kind enough
to offer 50% per off your first order (and there's no nasty subscription
surprises, you just cancel when you want to cancel) with the code VICTORIAPE5.
