HOW I DESIGNED A NEW LOGO FOR MY BLOG

I love seeing creative processes like this, so I thought today I'd show you just how I came to rebrand Apartment Number 4 recently. Obviously this isn't a huge rebrand, but I did want to make my blog a more grown-up, sophisticated space, so my logo, along with the website design, needed to change.

My previous Apartment Number 4 logo was a homemade job and although I liked it at the time, it didn't really reflect where I could see the blog developing. I set about making some mood boards of all the ideas I liked, which was probably my favourite part of the whole process.

As you'll see below, it wasn't so much a particular design I liked, but really a whole concept of pink, floral, gold foil, black type with a modern but girly edge. I think my boards explain it better than I can in words, and it was the perfect starting point to work from.

I then sat down with my friend Rich, who luckily works as a graphic designer and offered to help create the logo for me. It's all about who you know, not what you know people.

We discussed various elements of what I liked (the underlining of letters), and what I wasn't so keen on (coloured font) and he got down to business, bringing together some initial ideas for me to look at.

Out of the three initial designs, I knew the last one was my favourite but I wanted to see how it looked in a serif font, but still with the underlined letter A and number 4, as I felt this worked really well. I have very specific ideas, which I suspect made it easier for Rich to work from. I know what I like and what I don't like.

Having now seen the logos in a serif font, I knew that was the way I wanted to go and instantly fell in love. With some small changes including making the distance between the words equal throughout, I was so happy with the final result. It was everything I wanted my new branding to represent - feminine, grown-up, modern but chic. And here's the final result. I'd love to know your thoughts.
