INTERIOR TRENDS: ART DECO

ART DECOR INTERIOR INSPIRAITON

I'm always excited to see what new trends are predicted for the year ahead, and in fact if any of those will actually transpire. I mean, I'm not sure anyone really expected the pineapple, and copper for that matter, to become as big as they did in 2016. They really were some of the interior highlights which summed up the year.

There are a number of trends which are predicted to be big over the next coming months - organic , hygge and geometric prints to name a few. One trend, however, which I wanted to feature today is a return to the 1930s. This decade has had its moment in fashion, with Emma Stone rocking a fringed Great Gatsby dress only the other day at the Oscars.

But now it's having an interiors moment and I couldn't be happier. There's something so elegant about 1930s inspired interiors, especially the Art Deco movement. My mum is a huge fan of Art Deco and if you ever find yourself on the west coast of the UK in Morcambe, you have to visit The Midland Hotel, which has been restored to its full thirties glory.

Over the next year, I'm expecting to see geometric patterns, animal prints, glossy surfaces, plenty of polished gold and chrome mirrored furniture. I'd love to have a room, preferably the bedroom, in my house with a statement Art Deco feature wall, mirrored furniture and rich textures, such a silk and velvet.

This definitely isn't the sort of trend for fans of the minimalistic look, but if you love curves in all the right places, adding a little 30s inspiration to your home is fairly easy. Think a hexagonal or honeycomb black and gold backdrop, with a brass side table, a huge velvet sofa and an angular statement mirror. I think more than anything, it's the rich, classy combination of black and gold which makes this style a winner for me. What do you think? Something you'd try in your home, or something you think should have stayed in the 30s?

  2. Love this post... Who indeed knew about the pineapple?! We're still selling lots of copper lighting at Dowsing & Reynolds, it's continued longer than I'd have thought. Looking forward to seeing what 2016 brings x

    1. I'm still as obsessed with copper now as I as at the start of 2015 - although brass is getting very close to taking over! xx
