HOW TO STYLE YOUR BEDSIDE TABLE

Interior styling is one of my favourite things to do, and although I definitely don't claim to be an expert, I'd like to think I have a bit of an eye for what works well together. Today, I wanted to show you how to style your bedside table. Or at least, how I style mine.

First of all, every bedside table needs a lamp, and this Ikea chrome reading lamp is a popular option here in the UK. Priced at £17 it's clear to see why. I also have a mirrored trinket box to, weirdly enough, keep pennies in, but it's also used as a weight to keep my books propped up.

Every bedside table should have at least one good book on it, to feed the imagination before sleep takes over. On mine I have Living in Style by Rachel Zoe, Style A to Zoe - again by Rachel Zoe, Alexa Chung's IT and Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home. Obviously I love these books to read, but I also put them here for a purely aesthetic purpose because they worked with my colour scheme.

Candles are a great addition to consider, but just don't forget to blow them out before you go to sleep (just saying). I have my Primark Vanilla candle, which smells absolutely amazing, in a classic white Ikea candle holder - you know the one, the one every blogger in the world owns.

If you're like me and the last thing you do before you get into bed is take off all your jewellery, then a little bowl or ring holder is a good idea. This glass one of mine is an old ashtray which I stole from my dad's antique stall and now use to put my rings in.

I've added a little colour to my predominantly black and white bedroom with the use of faux flowers, again from both Ikea and eBay. The roses in the bottom bowl are actually made from wood and I love how the pink really brightens up the corner. You'll also spot how I've moved my Sarah & Bendrix "Wild at Heart" print to the bedroom now which I love there. Artwork either side of the bed is an idea I spotted on Pinterest and I think I'm going to buy another similar size print and the same frame and create a bit of bedroom symmetry.

I was so happy with the way these pictures turned out - it was only supposed to be a test run on Friday evening because I didn't think the lighting was good enough but they turned out exactly as I wanted them. Good old Nikon D3200 and my little 50mm lens.

Hope you're having a great bank holiday weekend anyway and if you have chance over the next couple of days, it would be amazing if you could vote for me to be shortlisted for the Amara Interior Blog Awards under Best Fashion Inspired category. It literally takes less than a minute but it would mean the world.

  1. Totally agree with your tips. I would just add if you can't have a table lamp because of your space restrictions or you want more space on your side table go for wall lights. And also work with scale which you've done very well. Many designers work with the rule of three which is having 3 items at different size and height. It's almost like steps. Go from the highest to the lowest in different shapes. So let's say you have a round vase to which you add a small square jewellery box and a small tea candle in an interesting holder.

    2. I've been tempted by that IKEA lamp for too long, the way you have styled it makes me think I need it in my life!
Great post, I did a similar post recently and now I'm obsessed with seeing everyone else's bedside tables!
