In my living room sit three amazing prints, blending gold foil typography with striking black and white photography. Each one amazing in its own way. Wild at Heart, Some Things Take Time and NON je ne regrette rien. The creative mind behind these pieces of art is designer Veronika Pollard, founder of Sarah & Bendrix.
Sarah & Bendrix is a mix of artwork, children's wooden toys, hand crafted jewellery with the odd piece of clothing thrown in. I recently caught up with Veronika and invited her inside Apartment Number 4 to talk about what's next for the brand, which print captures her heart the most and how she would spend her perfect Sunday.
Name: Veronika Pollard
Born: in Czech Republic

First of all, when and why Sarah & Bendrix was launched?
I started six years ago. The name Sarah & Bendrix is actually inspired by two main characters from a film The End Of Affair. The original book was written by Graham Green which is a sad love story. Romantic but not sweet - like our company.
Is your background in art and design?
I studied fashion design and then I worked as interior designer and visual merchandiser. I've always enjoyed being creative and after having my daughter I wanted to stay home with her but also still do things, so I started my little company.
Your prints are absolutely beautiful – which is your personal favourite?
NON je ne regrette rien - it was our first poster and is still very popular. I like the simplicity of the design and the message it gives. Unfortunately it's been copied a lot as well.
Describe a typical day.
My days are different, but I normally work within my daughter’s school hours, and then usually in the evening as well. Some days I can work 5 hours but some 16. Apart from work, I like to spend time with my daughter, do a bit of exercise or see my friends.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I know it’s very cliche but from everywhere. I like to read, browse Internet (for hours), Instagram and Pinterest (mainly). If time, I like to go to see exhibition or visit some old stately home or park.
How would you spend your perfect Sunday?
With a long sleep, reading papers and breakfast in bed, followed by a long walk, nice lunch outside of our home so I don't have to cook, more walking, a bit of TV in the evening and some time with family and friends. That would be nice. Unfortunately it doesn't happen that often!
In terms of interiors, how would you describe your style?
Eclectic? I tend to mix things a lot, although older/antique items are seeping more and more into our house.
What’s the most treasured thing in your house, bar family of course?
Our cat. I'm not really attached to things and if the usual question, what would you safe from a fire, comes up I'd say probably my computer. It has tons of photos, memories, work....
What’s the best piece of advice you've been given?
Work hard, stay humble and be nice to people.
What would you say to your 16 year old self if you could?
Be more confident, and open up more
What would you say your biggest vice is?
Sugar and reality TV shows
And finally, what’s next for Sarah & Bendrix?
We would like to add more items from other designers, some cute childrenswear and beautiful leather bags and jewellery. And we are completely rebranding very soon, so stay tuned.
